Flynn Drilling Co. constructed a new well drilled into the consolidated rock formation for our home town of Troy, Missouri, using our Atlas Copco T4 drilling rig.
The new 12″ diameter well was cased 880 ft deep, with drilling terminated 1,500 ft into the Lower Gasconade formation. It produces approximately 600 gpm — much needed water for Troy’s growing community, and a well the company is particularly glad to have drilled given that Flynn has been based on Boone Street since 1954.
Air rotary drilling is used to drill large diameter water supply wells. The method allows cleaning and retrieval of the cuttings from the borehole, which means subsurface conditions in consolidated formations can be verified as the hole advances rather than inferred afterwards — important when you are committing to 1,500 ft of hole and the town is going to drink out of it.
Municipal supply work of this scale is what the commercial side of the business is built for: eight drilling rigs, fourteen pump rigs, cranes and the crews to run them.
