How a well gets built
The ground decides the design
When deciding how to construct a new well, the geological conditions in your immediate area determine casing depths, total well depth, and whether the well will need an inner liner. There is no single answer that works everywhere in Missouri — and guessing is expensive.
With the number of wells Flynn Drilling has already drilled in our service area, we can study the neighboring wells and estimate very closely how much casing your well may or may not need before we start.
All wells drilled by Flynn Drilling are certified with Missouri DNR and meet or exceed all state requirements. It is our promise that with everything Flynn Drilling has to offer, you will be very satisfied with every aspect of our services.
The three decisions
Casing, depth and liner
Casing
The Department of Natural Resources sets all the rules and regulations for water well construction. DNR requires us to set 6 inches of casing a minimum of 80 ft, or 30 ft into bedrock, then cement it in place to prevent any surface water or contaminants from getting into the well water. In our service area you could see anywhere from 80 ft to 400 ft or more of casing.
Well depth
After the casing is set, depth is based both on the many wells we have drilled nearby and on how much water your application needs — a single home, multiple homes, lawn irrigation, filling a lake. In our service area wells run from 300 ft to 1,200 ft deep and produce anywhere from 1 to 100+ gallons per minute. We prefer to see a well produce more than the desired pump rate, to ensure significant efficiency.
Liner
Once casing is set and the well is drilled to total depth, bad unseen geological formations are sometimes encountered beyond the casing — shale, mud seams, broken formations. Where that happens we install an inner liner to protect the integrity of the well.

A completed Flynn well is more than a hole in the ground: it is a sealed, cased, pressure-regulated system that runs from the aquifer to your tap.
Licensed and accountable
DNR licensed, NGWA member
Flynn Drilling is a Missouri Department of Natural Resources licensed contractor in the state of Missouri, and a member of the National Ground Water Association. Danny Flynn chairs the Well Installation Board of Missouri DNR, which helps regulate well and geothermal industry regulations in the state.
Every well is certified with DNR, and the record of it stays with us — so when the property changes hands or a pump needs pulling in twenty years, the log is still on file.
